My gf and I thought it was REALLY good. They had baked potato bar when we went and I didn't indulge in that. Yes, it seems fairly pricy, but when I thought about it more it didn't seem as bad. Drink, huge salad bar (had more than I thought it would), nice choice of soups, and then gelato on top of that ... seems OK ... especially when I think about it trying to do the local thing, etc.

We will be back for sure ... too bad it's SO far away from us (we're near Northstar).

On another note ... looks like starting mid-June you will get a coupon for 1/2 off of gelato rather than a free (small) serving.

I usually get what I believe is called The Northern-chicken, bacon, broccoli, and baked potato with a cream sauce. Sooo good. The bread really isn't all that exciting on its own, so I order a side of red or green pesto like Sarah does. I love it.

Actually, we ate lunch there today. Thought it would be cheaper but I was wrong. Still $20 for the two of us. We were somewhat disappointed in it this time. The soup was pretty good but I had the seafood chowder, which had what looked like imitation crab, otherwise I couldn't see any other seafood. The salads were good.

I had a baked potato that was good. The other entrees didn't look great, they had chicken quarters that looked absolutely bone dry. Nobody was eating them. The chicken in one of the chicken salads was rubbery and dry, so I assume it was some of the leftovers.

I don't think we'll be back. It's a great concept but they're just priced too high.

Moses & Foxspit - I'm glad that you agree with our assessment. I like the idea of going for a late lunch to save money. It sounds like we didn't just hit a bad day for the entrees, this sounds like the general pattern.

Agreed. We went one evening and we had pretty severe sticker shock when we paid. We will go back but it will be for lunch next time.

I thought their soups were excellent and the salad bar was good. I tried their entree but I really didn't expect to get an entree when we decided to go there.

That was our reaction also. The salad and soup was excellent but the entrees were just thrown in because sometimes your group includes fresh vegetable phobics and they need something to eat also.

I just ate there for the first time. I was excited at the opportunity to have a San Diego-style California Burrito again. Unfortunately, what I got was so bad I couldn't even finish it. All it was was a big flour tortilla (granted the size was very large) stuffed with small chips of beef (i.e. the "carne asada") with little or no seasoning, french fries, and american cheese. There was no pico de gallo, no salsa, no green onions, and basically, no taste. The McDonald's hamburgers have more zest than this!

Anyway, I was disappointed in the experience, even to the point of being a little angry at myself for not trying something different. I wouldn't be surprised if there other offerings were better, but I am definitely NOT trying a California Burrito there again (if there is an "again").

The vegetarian pizza is amazing and I don't like most vegetarian dishes. This place is a true gem in this city. Saddle Creek Records in Omaha tried to get them to open up another one in north downtown Omaha in the same building as the Slowdown. That would have been amazing.

I used to work at Lazo's and they have used the teamwork service technique for decades, and is not the norm around Nebraska. Also, their food is always freshly made daily, and I always saw the prep cooks grinding the beef around 10:30 am.

I will only get me food to-go from the Blue Orchid after almost six months of bi-weekly poor service. I'll never forget last valentines day (2007) when we were seated and sat there for 40 minutes without even getting water poured in our glasses until we finally stopped a server and asked if we could get some water and order food.

Another time (my girlfriends birthday), we were seated and were given our water and eventually received our food, an hour after ordering it, and it was cold.

These are just two of the more outrageous times we ate there, but i've eaten there maybe 20 or 30 times ( I love thai food), and only one time did I leave thinking the service was good. I will only get my orders to-go from this place.

Thai House on 27th and Vine has way better pad thai, and is much cheaper.
